Introduction
The concept deals with the teaching of the topics such as consumption, agriculture and conscious nutrition. The educational mandate is provided by the federal government, but the design of the content is left to the teachers. It often happens that food companies recognize this need and offer worksheets or workshops for it. Children thus associate the term “sustainability” with the brands. A company’s values do not always match its sustainability goals. Education should take place independently.
Goals
The primary goal focuses on the formation of new competencies and conscious action:
- Early relation to nature/food
- Education for conscious action
- Dimensions of agriculture/food production in relation to consumption/overconsumption
- Appreciation of food
- Practical skills
- Sense of achievement and emotional connection
- Teaching skills
Concept
The learning environment is designed as a teaching unit. It can be used flexibly by different teachers in different subjects. Enclosed we present an exemplary daily routine with our service: We are in the middle of the school year in the subject of social studies and does not have to prepare anything else. He explains the course of the workshop “Conscious Nutrition” to the children by means of an “onboarding” in the system. The workshop is based on the semester weeks, but it is very flexible to be applied to other subjects without timing, in case there is a class test or something else coming up. The teacher unlocks a chapter and the children can start the game via their gadgets, on average one game takes 15 minutes. Meanwhile, the teacher monitors the progress of the game and can observe how far the students are. After the game round, the game is dissolved and the students can either browse the encyclopedia or write down questions for the discussion round, which are projected on the beamer accordingly. Depending on the situation, the teacher has two options:
- A discussion group within the whole class
- Or with our system selected discussion groups according to a certain principle
In the first case, the teacher moderates the round with the help of the slides, if students work within small groups, the moderation takes place from the system. On average, 15 minutes are allocated for the group discussion round. During this time the teacher is available as a coach. In the third stage, after the completion of all games of a game chapter, the class comes together again and receives different proposals for action from the system, which are completed in the form of a homework or project. The process looks like this:
The children are assigned to a project with project partners, which is completed in a specific time frame. The project group is allowed to present the results and achievements to the class and exchange ideas. These principles apply to all topics and can be applied flexibly.
